The wonder of sewing

 

Working with a sewing machine needs special skills. It isn’t that easy to make clothes if you don’t know the basic skills of putting it together or how to use a sewing machine.

My mother always made our dresses. She was really a skilled sewer. As soon as we were old enough to sew my mother showed us how to use dress patterns to sew our own dresses. I have two sisters and they are also both skilled in using  a sewing machine. My younger sister still has the old sewing machine( I think it still works)

 

 

I made many of my own clothes before I got married. After my son’s birth I also made his t-shirts and track suits. When I bought my over locker I also won some classes in how to make track suits. I also did some sewing classes in making a double sided windbreaker which I still wear on cold winter days.

Today I am not really interested in making my own clothes but with prices rocketing today I might as well start making my own again.

I am more interested in using my special sewing skills to piece and make my own quilts. Making these crafty pieces of work gives me lots of joy, making them is also therapeutic for body and soul.
