I took my student to the races today!
First time for her and for me.
Trentham Race Course
Upper Hutt
Entrance was free today!
Old building
Although Trentham was 16 3/4 miles from Wellington, the travel time was considerably less than the Hutt Park site and had the added advantage of the adjacent railway line.
Work Started in 1922 on three stands, The Leger (demolished in the 1998), and the reinforced concrete cantilevered public and members stands which still dominate and provide excellent viewing today. In a rush to have the stands completed for the January 1924 cup week, the workers were “compensated” with chocolate and nylons to work extra hours over the Christmas and New Year period with the stands being opened on time!http://www.trentham.co.nz/page/history.aspx
Horses getting ready for the race
And there they come!
Sunny house on the hill
Look at the beautiful clouds!
It was an awesome afternoon at the races!
Ag dis lekker! Ek was ook nog nooit!
Toe hul dit adverteer as gratis ingang kon ek dit nie weerstaan nie. Daar was nie baie mense buite nie.
Kosbare foto’s want julle sal nie maklik weer gaan nie
Ek was nog nooit by so ‘n resies nie! Thank you for sharing the experience!!
Was n hele ondervinding. Die baan is so 10 minute se ry van my af.
Looks like a lot of fun! I have never been to the races!
Was fun. At first my student did not want to stand near the fence. She said it must be dangerous!(It wasn’t!)
What a super experience for you both. Did you wear a big hat? 🙂
It was very different and special. No we did not wear hats because it was only a club race. Not many people at all. The big ones you have to pay and dress for
A great interesting post. I loved your photos. 😀
Thank you! Have you been at the races?
I used to go to the trotting races at Green Lane in Auckland with my parents when I was little. Then I worked as a nurse at Greenlane Hospital so saw them from a distance all the time. I don’t go now though. 😀
Awesome, this was really very interesting because I heard about Trentham races and then this one was free entrance. The best opportunity to do it!
Ek was ook nog nooit by so iets nie!
Pragtige foto’s!
Sommer so bietjie meer as n armlengte van my af
Wow dit moes fantasties gewees het!
Vriende van ons het perde, en hulle nooi ons gereeld vir ‘n “day at the races”, maar daar is altyd iets wat voorval!
Ek is nie n perde mens ne!
