The Banksias are a wonderful selection of plants. I have many in my garden. You can not grow them from seed, unless you burn the cones first. Fire releases the seed from the cones. Fabulously structured flower. Did you photograph this one in New Zealand?
We saw the very same shrubs while in the Australian Blue Mountains… I have no idea what they are bit they reminded me of a cob of corn….

Interesting. Yes it grows in my friends garden in Kaitoki Loop just north of Upper Hutt
