CITY

My city photos are from Pretoria in South Africa.

The photos were taken by my son while he was living in the city in 2004.

Pretoria is a city in the northern part of Gauteng ProvinceSouth Africa. It is one of the country’s three capital cities, serving as the executive (administrative) and de facto national capital; the others are Cape Town, the legislative capital, and Bloemfontein, thejudicial capital. Pretoria is contained within the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality as one of several constituent former administrations (among which also Centurion and Soshanguve). Pretoria itself is sometimes referred to as “Tshwane” due to a long-running and controversial proposed change of name, which has yet to be decided, as of 2012.

Pretoria is named after Andries Pretorius.[2][3]

Pretoria in South Africa is popularly known as The Jacaranda City due to the thousands of Jacaranda trees planted in its streets, parks and gardens.[4]

Bulawayo is the second largest city in Zimbabwe after the capital Harare, with an estimated metropolitan population in 2007 of 731,003.[2] It is located in Matabeleland, 439 km southwest of Harare, and is now treated as a separate provincial area from Matabeleland. The capital of Matabeleland North is now Lupane, as Bulawayo is a stand-alone province.
