Winter Rose – Helleborus

When the winter rose starts to bloom you know that it really is winter!

The year before last I thought some green leaves were weeds!

I kept on chopping them off, tell my friend said :”this is a Winter Rose”

This year I looked after it and

Here we are
Winter roses!

 Winter Rose

A winter rose
So fragile and fair
It’s grace and beauty
Beyond compare

Standing strong
Against the cold winter winds
Bending………
Never breaking
Never giving in.

You remind me so
Of that winter rose
Bending…….
Just a little as those cold winds blow

And like that rose
I shall cut you free
And keep you warm and safe with me

Keep you safe
Within my heart
Until those winter storm clouds part

My story for letter C is for

CAMEO

I can remember the following :

Before I left home after living 4 years with my parents while teaching my four years, my parents asked me to come into their bedroom and sit on the bed.

They both told me they are giving me this precious cameo which belonged to my grandmother

from my mother’s side. I am the second daughter and have my grandmothers names.

I was really speechless when they  gave it to me.

It is so precious. I am supposed to set it in a brooch or something,

I don’t want to let it out of my hands because it is too valuable.

Cameo is a method of carving an object such as an engraved gem, item of jewellery or vessel made in this manner. It nearly always features a raised (positive) relief image; contrast with intaglio, which has a negative image. Originally, and still in discussing historical work, cameo only referred to works where the relief image was of a contrasting colour to the background; this was achieved by carefully carving a piece of material with a flat plane where two contrasting colours met, removing all the first colour except for the image to leave a contrasting background.
