Now I know there have been previous photo challenges on sunsets, but I also believe it is a universal truth that we cannot resist reaching for our cameras as the sun puts on its goodnight performance. You’ve probably got a myriad of dazzling sunset shots just waiting to be put online, so if you would like to join in this week’s travel theme, create your own post titled Travel theme: Sunset and don’t forget to put a link to this page in your post to make it easy for others to find it. Don’t forget to check back in next Friday for a new travel theme.

My SUNSET  photos were taken at the end of the shortest day 2012.

June 22, 2012

Near Wellington, New Zealand

First 4 photos taken from my front steps. Taken away from sunset.

Last two photos taken from the back of my unit. Taken towards the sunset

Today is the shortest day of the year with the solstice at 11:09 am.  Auckland will have just 9 hours and 38 minutes of daylight today.  Wellington will 9 hours and 11 minutes of daylight.  Christchurch will have 8 hours and 56 minutes.  Invercargill will have just 8 hours 35 minutes.

Of course this also means that the days start getting longer again as of tomorrow.

  4. Your “other side of the sunset” shots are sooo pretty, I was sad to turn toward the sun! Great shots! I couldn’t agree with you more about there never being a good reason not to reach for a camera at sunset – I think I’ll post some more – your pinks have inspired me :)
